2 - thirty nine (bit late)

So... lets just pretend you stepped into a time machine and I haven't birthed Norah yet. Here's my 39 week update. It was to sad to let it not be posted even if it is about five weeks late.

feeling

pretty perky but pretty keen to meet this kiddo. she keeps doing sneaky things like turning around to almost posterior which freaks me out.
i still resemble a stranded whale when i get up in the morning but still have ankle definition so that's a win.
Starting to feel the baby pressure. So many people due after me are having their babies. Really not looking forward to 40+ weeks.

doing

lots of stuff on hands and knees to combat the sneaky baby. Scrubbing the floors and playing duplo. The only thing is when I do it when Lucy is around she thinks it's time to play "horseeee!"
Going for brisk walks and those kinds of things but trying not to try too hard. She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes.

Thinking

I hope this is my last weekly post. There are things I love about being pregnant but going overdue aint one of them.

Feeling

Like a ticking time bomb. It's all getting really close and I don't deal well with unknowns.
I'm so full of baby right now. My pelvis is sore and I don't bend like I used to.

Doing

Not a whole lot of sleeping. It feels like it takes forever to get to sleep and I'd like to stay in bed all morning.
Still haven't properly packed my bag but it's still two weeks to go. I'm trying to make the decision of whether I want to go into labour now or later. Not that it makes much of a difference but I'm feeling fairly content to be pregnant.
Myl is crazy busy over the next few weeks so having a baby could either add to the crazy or mean that he can abdicate all responsibility.

Thinking

When will you come baby? I'm super keen to meet you.

feeling

pretty pregnant. Sweltering in the humidity and I think I felt myself waddle a little today. I'm having to be really careful with what I eat or the dreaded heartburn ruins my sleep. It's getting tricky to lift Lucy without feeling as though I'll drop my uterus which makes it really hard when she puts her hands in the air and says "tuddle."
Can't complain too much. Most days I still have ankles and am not stranded on the floor if I get down to play duplo.

doing

I actually started packing my bags yesterday and then realised we are going away this weekend and will need the bags. Uhhhh.
I'm practicing my breathing techniques and reading the psychedelic birth stories in Ina May Gaskins "Spiritual Midwifery."
I've also hit the nesting hard. I can't sit still. I find myself straightening everything and sweeping a few times a day.

thinking

I'm thirty seven weeks which means full term. Half of me thinks "bring on the baby" and then I freak because I don't feel quite ready and also because I could get to forty one weeks like last time.

2 - thirty four

We took this weeks photos next to the elephants at the zoo. I thought it would make me look good. Ya know, in comparison.

Feeling

Pregnant. My energy drains fast and heartburn is a pretty regular occurrence. I can't even drink oj.
However, my feet are not so puffy and I'm still wearing my wedding ring. Small wins.

Doing

Trying to survive sans toddler nap. Myl goes back to college on Monday. Heaven help us.
It's really doing me in.
Went to Priceline and bought all my baby needs. Ahh breast pads how I forgot about you.

Thinking

Six weeks is an incredibly short amount of time.

Also, if you were wondering what Lu is doing in the photo she is being a monkey. Possibly a big dada monkey or a baby monkey. The zoo was pretty awesome.

thirty four weeks of Lucy - yikes on a bike. Hello water retention!

2 - twenty nine

feeling

Back to my old self. Thankfully my pelvis is back to normal. It could have been so so much worse. I'm thankful that it fixed up in about a day. I'm getting to be a big ole pregnant lady who needs to sit down and have drinks of water all the time.
I can no longer eat fatty or spicy foods. The heartburn is not worth it and my thighs are thanking me.

doing

Swimming! What a joy. Not only does it cool me down but it makes me light as a feather.
We were at home for a day and a half this week and I started chipping away at the ice in the freezer and reorganising the dvds. Chirp chirp.

thinking

About labour. Must. Think. About. Labour. I would really like to be prepared especially as we're shooting for a VBAC. I think it's mostly about getting my head in the game, preparing for a long first timey labour and keeping as fit and healthy as I can. Oh, also fending off the doctors who may try to sneak me into having an unnecessary caesarian. Piece of cake right?

I'm also looking at my weekly photos with Lucy and finding it hard to believe I am THAT far along.

feeling

a game of innocent christmas day backyard cricket means i can't really walk so well right now. I think i did something my my pelvic bone. It hurts like wildfire. I was feeling so happy and healthy until this moment. So so glad Myl is on holidays.

doing

now that christmas is over it's time to get ready for this baby. We are still at my parents place but when we get home i will become a little mother hen and start nesting round the place. Folding sweet little clothes and dusting the doorknobs.

thinking

i'm getting really excited about adding another little one to our family. As it gets closer and closer i start thinking less about pregnancy and more about motherhood.

feeling

This baby is moving! I'm feeling knees and elbows all over my tummy. It moves and jiggles. Some would call it freaky but I kinda like it.
I'm not feeling the heat as much as I thought I would. Sure, It's hot but I'm not up to the cold bath stage yet.
I'm starting to feel a bit huge. I remember from last time wishing I could just squish my ball of a tummy back in there somehow and that feeling is coming back again.

doing

Keeping busy. We have family to see and Christmas to prepare for. I've got all my appointments booked till march.
I'm starting to really think about and prepare for labour.

thinking

About life with two. There are definitely things that will need to change. Our days will become more structured and at home I'm guessing. I'll need to set up things for lu to do while I bf smalls. I can't imagine what Sundays will look like. Eeeep!
We've been visiting my sister and her baby and I forgot how all consuming a newborn is. It's going to be lovely but I'm expecting not to do more than baby loving for a while.

feeling

pretty good. hard to know if the soreish hips are a result of sleeping 4cm from the ground all week or having a baby the size of a mango inbetween said hips.
noticing i have to be careful with spicy food. heartburn is a killer.
feeling less agile and less stable on unstable places like slimy rockpools at the beach. having to figure out where my new centre of balance is but it's probably better to just avoid potentially life threatening balance situations.

also, my tummy looks very big in these photos. it's a bit misleading. it's not that huge...yet.

doing

still sleeping on my back at times. camping for the last five days hasn't been awful but wasn't as comfy as my bed at home. Sometimes my back had to do and for now it seems to work ok. Last time I was freaked out about sleeping on my back but I think it's only important a bit later on...?
mum asked me when my next ante-natal appointment is. i have no idea. better book one. classic second child syndrome.

thinking

about becoming an aunty. my sister is going to have her baby any day now and i'm very excited to meet my little niece or nephew. i keep checking my phone to see if i've gotten a call.

apologies for the out-of-focus(ness) of the photos. I'd blame the photographer but he's too handsome.

wow they really are quite fuzzy.

feeling

emotional. boy oh boy I've been crying at everything. Mostly just the sad things though. Show me a rom-com and I'm gone.
I'm feeling bigger and noticing the change in my centre of gravity. Last time the bigness just made me want to sit around eating chicken nuggets but now I'm using it as an excuse to go for a walk.
Also feeling glad that this spring has me wearing long sleeves and stockings. I can wait for the steaming hot days.

doing

we had our ultrasound on Thursday and found out the gender of our little smalls. More on that later. I'd like to make a sweet little announcement video.
We're also on holidays which is very exciting. We are going to spend next week camping on the central coast. It will be great having Myl around.

thinking

about what it will be like to have a little ...... aha! almost got me!
Yep. Smalls has been on my mind.

feeling

tired. I'm not sure if it's related to pregnancy at all (though I feel like I experienced it last time) but I've had sore sinuses right between my eyes all week. It's been making my eyes water and making me feel a bit drowsy. Hoping it goes away.

I'm getting bigger! When I bend over I can feel there is something in the way.

doing

Reading up on hypno-birthing. Anyone had any experience?
Had my very uneventful appointment with the obstetrician at the birth centre. She warned me of the perilous dangers of having a VBAC and I smiled and nodded.

thinking

About seeing smalls this Thursday. Aside from the usual "what if my baby has two heads?!" moments I've been getting excited about learning more about this little family member growing inside.
Still majorly stuck on boys names.
Also thinking about how I'm going to fit a cot in our room.

Feeling

Had a random day of heartburn. Hello old friend. Otherwise feeling fine and kicky.
Getting a bit nervous about swollen feet, water retention, feeling like a beached whale that I remember from last time.
My bump is emerging... slowly...ish.

Doing

Still wearing my jeans. I feel an odd sense of pride till I remember you are supposed to not fit into your jeans when with child. Still feels good.
Watched a video with my mama about skin to skin in the first hour. It made me swoon for a newborn. And a natural birth this time pretty please.

Thinking

So glad the weather forecast for summer has changed. Goodbye stinker, hello La NiƱa.
I'm also thinking about boy names. It's ridiculously hard to choose. I'm looking forward to finding out one way or another so we can keep figuring it out or not worry.

PS - The little one is loving getting her photo taken. Each week she comes and stands next to me, smiles, and fools around. Love her.

feeling

tired. but that may have something to do with the sick husband and little girl I have been nursing back to health this week.
Feeling more and more little kicks and movements.

doing

heard smalls heartbeat on Thursday for the first time. It was sweet and very reassuring.
I've been having some not so nice pregnancy dreams. It's nice to wake up and realise that they aren't real.

thinking

This summer is supposed to be a real stinker. I'm thinking about a paddling pool for christmas.
I'm excited to find out the gender of this little babe. We couldn't get an ultrasound till 22 weeks so have a few weeks to go.

2 - sixteenish

it's actually closer to seventeen but oh well.

feeling...

smalls move! some small bubble pops and then definite movement. One night it felt like smalls was sitting right high on my tummy it was all popped out and moving. Seriously awesome.
I had my first midwife appointment and she said she couldn't use the doppler so this bit of movement makes me feel a whole lot better.

doing

getting into exercise. I'm really struck by how unfit I am and how much I need to be ready for the marathon that is childbirth. I always intended to get back into shape before getting pregnant but kinda missed my chance. I'm not intending to run kilometers but just feel more confident about going the labour distance. I'm also looking into VBAC classes. My hospital doesn't run them so I'm on the lookout.

thinking

or not! I keep having pregnancy moments. Feeling quite happy about calling it baby brain but I have my suspicions it might just be me.
It's so different this time round. Two years ago my thoughts were consumed by Lucy but now, I sometimes forget I'm pregnant. Especially when about to put my mouth around a ham sandwich or something.

Feeling
Good! It's warming up, the birds are singing and the world is a happier sunnier place.
I feel like I'm starting to show but am not convinced its not cake.
My belly button has gone round again which was the first way I was showing last time.
My tummy feels different. Smalls is the size of a kiwi fruit so I'm sure thats definitely on schedule. It feels like there is something going on in there.

Eating
Still not back up to my former appetite.
We found the best burger place on our street and went there on my birthday. There are moments when I really feel like a burger but I'm not sure it can be classified as a craving.
Not really any aversions. I keep forgetting I'm pregnant and "should" have them.

Thinking
About how the little (very jealous of other babies) one is going to go when smalls gets lots of special mama cuddles and how I can prevent the sadness.
Glad to be in trimester two. It's going so fast!

forty

How far along? 40 weeks. I'm due today so where is this baby?
Baby’s Size God only knows.
Where she is: head down still only 3/5 engaged (I thought she had gone further :( ) and now facing posterior (head up) this is not such a good thing but hopefully she will spin right back around. Scrubbing the floors for me.
Feeling: Excited for her to come but getting so anxious now. I just want to know when she will be here.
Belly Button: Flat and really really dark.
Gender: girl
Movement: lots of moving and squirming.
Sleep: Fantastic. I keep thinking I am going to wake up in the middle of the night with contractions but I wake up each morning still pregnant and feeling well rested.
Symptoms: swollen feet and ankles. These are not my feet anymore. Not so much else though.
Labour Signs: Just practice braxton hicks.
Best Moments this week: finally making it to the "end."
Food Aversions: no
Food Cravings: chicken nuggets again.
What I miss: being able to plan my week.
What I am Looking forward to: contractions! bring it on.
Milestones: Fully pregnant. 40 weeks. I'm done...I hope.
