the twenty-fifth

I had a lovely Christmas day.

It started at church at 11pm for the midnight Christmas service. I was reminded that our saviour came as a little baby just like the one in my belly.

The next morning we had church again. We're keen.

We had nine people for Christmas in our little apartment.

After that it was lunch and presents time. I'm not really sure why we give presents at christmas but it sure is nice. I got some really lovely things.

My favourite part of Christmas is cooking. I thought the camera had run out of battery so I only have one photo of the cooking and none of the rest of the day.

I made a roast chicken, cauliflower cheese and sweet potato. My mum made a roast pork, roast vegis and apple sauce. Dessert was cassata ball, trifle, choc-peppermint mousse and mum's famous fruit cake.

I was pretty full by the end. Sooo tasty!

We ate under some shade in our backyard. We had afternoon naps. We went for a walk round Glebe point. It was a really warm day but not so warm that it was unpleasant.

I <3 Christmas.

c'mon kid, go for a goal

Babies playing football in Libero's football diapers - Sweden

Two things I'm guessing about this little fella*

1.
He* is taking after his mama in that he likes to nap. I have not felt one little squirm/move/kick/poke/fidget since he made his merry way into my womb.
I hope this means I will have the calmest gentlest little babe.

2.
All hopes of the little one becoming a soccer star can be forgotten.

You gotta start by kicking little one!!

In other news. I have my midwife appointment at the birth centre booked for this Wednesday. I booked it in quite a few months ago and I don't know why it isn't till week 18 but that's ok.
I'm quite excited.

I hope we get to hear the family's smallest heartbeat again.

baby gifts

I was given some lovely little gifts for the little one.

The tag says
"May you know the joy of a little beak under your wing."

Blanket crocheted by my mum in record time.
I think she hopes it's a girl just quietly.

Booties made by my mama. What a clever lady.

Fathers Day - Part II

Well it struck me the other day that Myl is a father. Even though our baby is 2 inches long with a one inch long head he is still a dada and I'm still a mama.

So I decided to get him a fathers day present.

Have I mentioned before that I'm not really all that into surprises?

One fathers day we had got dad a shovel. It was the biggest secret and mum said we were not to tell dad what his present was.

I agreed. But when later talking to dad about his present I said,

"I'm not going to tell you what it is but you can dig holes with it."

Some things are just too exciting to keep a secret. no?

Myles first ever fathers day present is one of these surprises. Its the book Man with a Pram by Stephen Mitchell and John Ferry.

The blurb says;

"The concept for Man With A Pram was born (excuse the pun) from the authors' observations that most men were not interested in the current pregnancy literature on the market. Added to this was the observation that many a pregnant partner seemed to be frustrated by this perceived lack of interest in pregnancy literature."
I must confess that the second part is just a little true for me.
While Myles is extremely interested and excited he has not been scouring books and the internet like a maniac for information about babies. He has not lived his entire life for this moment. He does not have a baby-lovin midwife mother.
Yes it is a percieved lack of interest.

Nevertheless. He loves the book. He read a couple of chapters last night after I gave it to him and had a good giggle. It seems to be a pretty easy to read book and it was so nice to have him tell me facts about our little one.

Ikea date and a gift for the bobbin.

Myl and I have decided to do weekly Friday arvo dates.

We went to a marriage course at college the other week and we learnt that it is so important to give time to each other. It's gotten harder this half of the year as Myl is out in the mornings and I'm out in the afternoons but we managed to find a slot to have our "date night" or date afternoon.

So far we had a failed trip to the rocks (it was much too cold so we went to Glebe instead) and a trip to Ikea today.

May not sound like the most exciting thing ever but if you've seen 500 Days of Summer you will know what I mean. The trip is made even more exciting by the ability to not only look and swoon at the children/baby section but to actually be able to consider things there.

So we looked and oohed and ahhed. And we got the little bobbin a present. Its called the Fabler bed canopy and it was $29.99.

Its really cute and has bunting round the top and little coloured beads around on the mesh. They had it on display and I was thinking of tucking the little one into bed at night and closing the little curtains.

Actually the whole Fabler series is pretty cute. They have soft toys and wall stickers and blankets etc.

Might be back.

It was a nice date for Myl and I. We got some Swedish meatballs at the restaurant and Myl ate a hideous $1 hot-dog. (Thank heavens I can't eat them.)

It might be tricky to have date night once the little one comes along. Or date afternoon. It might need to be date-while-baby-has-a-nap for a while but that's ok. We're having a pretty good time at the moment.

Hmm... where to next week?
