staycation + 2.5 years

Last weekend we had a staycation.
Myl had the weekend off work and it was our 2.5 year wedding anniversary.
Any excuse will do.

It was cold and rainy on the Friday so we went to DFO after a lovely long sleep in.
We walked around and got some sweet cheap clothes.
We had dumplings at our favourite little spot in Ashfield.

On Saturday we hit the city.
I showed Myl the ridiculous new Westfield at Centrepoint.
We changed Lucy in the fantastically snazzy parents room complete with L'Occtaine hand lotion.
(I know, ridiculous)
We walked through the city chatting and holding hands.
We saw about 100 screaming teenagers watching k-pop.
Then we went to the rocks. We had planned to go to the Museum of Contemporary Art but it is being renovated and is completely closed. :(
But that did not rain on our parade. We wandered about the cobble stone lanes of the rocks. My imagination ran away with me a few times as I had visions of unearthing a plague rat and our little family becoming infected. (A little plaque told me however, that there were only three plague victims in the rocks... in the early 1900's....aaaand they pulled down and burnt their houses. It set my imaginations at ease*)
We went to a sweet little cafe, looked at the markets and ate tasty pancakes at one of our favourite restaurants.
We watched the sunset from a little lookout. It was very sweet.
We meant to catch the bus from the rocks but ended up walking all the way to Vic Park. Lucy fell asleep.

When we got home we had a lovely surprise from my siblings and co. We missed out on dinner with them but we had a nice little chat and some gelato.

More pictures (and what we did on Sunday) to come next week!

*Yes, I have been reading Anne of Green Gables if you were wondering. Her thoughts are becoming my life.

at the drive in

We're back from holidays but before I share about our fun two weeks away I'm going to share about something close to my heart.

Harry Potter.

When we first found out we were pregnant the only forseeable problem was how we were going to watch the final Harry Potter movie. We figured we would have a three month old. A bit too young for a babysitter and not old enough to join us for the potentially violent magical fun.

We had a few plans in place. We could have someone look after Lucy out side of the theatre, we could go to the "mums and bubs session", we could (heaven forbid) wait till it comes out on video.

But then one of our lovely friends gave us the idea on Sunday of going to the drive in.
It was the perfect idea. Baby in the back. Us in our little "soundproof" box.
Not to mention it's the DRIVE IN. How cool.

So that night we went. It was so ridiculously awesome.

Oh and most importantly Lucy slept the WHOLE way through. She fell asleep on the drive over and woke up when I was walking into our house when we got home. She really loves her parents.

I'm so sad now that it's all over. No more new HP. The end of a very long and lovely era. Thankyou JK Rowling.

ten weeks old

my little girl is ten weeks old

Lucy has a toy called Crunchie. It crunches and Lucy loves it. She grabs it and eats it and stares at it. She is becoming more and more alert every day. She winks and smiles and raises her eyebrows.
She does a cute opened eye thing if you take a photo of her with the flash.

She has started to laugh. It's only happened a few times. She mostly just gurgles but a few times she has been really laughing. It's the best.

She has a bit of a sniffly nose again. It was really sniffly on Saturday night. I put her down to sleep and she sounded like a little baby pig. So I called my mum and she said to drop some saline up her nose. It worked really well and she slept for a good long while.

She is becoming much more vocal. She sings along with me and chatters away. She likes words that start with G (gee, gah etc). Her cries are getting louder. She cries when she is overstimulated and sometimes it is tricky to get her to calm down. Myl is a superman at getting her to be happy. He sings to her with his big deep voice and she is in heaven.

She is getting better at feeding (or am I getting better?) Sometimes she is very picky about the side she wants. She will make hunger signs and then wail if I give her one side so I think she isn't hungry till I try the other. It's never the same side though. She is a kook!

We went out for dumplings with my siblings on the weekend. Lucy loves her aunts and uncles. She put on a very good show of smiles and cuddles. Sometimes I think she is better behaved for other people than for me.

I love her oh so much. Looking at her makes my heart ache. Holding her makes me feel so happy. I'm loving being a mama. It is so wonderful.

On one of the hottest nights of the year Myl and I went and celebrated two years of marriage in Balmain at a nice restaurant.

crafty birthday to you

Now I know it was my birthday a while ago...

Yikes it was a month ago today!

But I got given a Myer gift card and since Myer is right down there in the big city I hadn't been yet.
But yesterday after I finished work Myles and I had a spontaneous date to go to Myer.

Romantic no?

I had in my mind what I wanted to get and there it was on sale for 35% off!

This is the meet me at mikes book. It rocks my socks.
Its super trendy craft things.

There is a project in there to make some little baby shoes.

Im going to make them tonight.

It was so discounted that I could buy a whole other book with my voucher.

So I go this one.

They are softies.

They are super duper cute.

I'm going to make some for the little one.

Myles like the pink alien on the cover. I think I will make it first.

Just need to take a trip to Spotlight.

After our romantic time at Myer we went to one of our favourite places to eat.
Pancakes at the Rocks.

It was very good.
Little bobbin agreed.

Date - Maya Indian Food.

I have Indian heritage.

You might not know it to look at me but I do. My mum was born in a little town called Belgaum on the western coast of India in a military hospital. Her dad was in the army. They moved around a lot.

She is an Anglo-Indian which means she has English in her as well as Indian. Her life was more European and she has lighter skin. Hence why I don't look so Indian.

One awesome thing our family has gotten out of mums heritage is the love and appreciation of Indian food.

Maya is an Indian restaurant on Cleveland St Surry Hills. It is run by the sikhs and is therefore vegetarian. Mum is always taking us there when she comes to Sydney and I know my Gran and Pa are regular customers.
So we thought why only go when Mum comes to town. Why not go ourselves. So we did.

We had samosas (left) and dosas (below)

A samosa is... spring rolls for Indians?

A dosa is like a big savoury pancake with potato curry inside and little dippity curry things to go with it.

Highly technical descriptions I know.
If you can do better feel free to comment.

It tastes good.
It was a really lovely date.

We ate and chatted and watched funny bolly
wood film clips on the screens in the restaurant.

I like Myl
I like indian.

We have fun together.

Birthday Post

It was my birthday on Wednesday.
It was a long day.

It started with some coffee (Hot Choc for me) with some friends at 7 30.
Yes getting up at seven is early for me.
How things will change when the little one is here.

When I got home Myl had a surprise adventure for me.
We got on a bus to a mystery location.
The Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages!

Photobucket

While we have been married for well over a year we hadn't gotten our actual marriage certificate yet and in order to change your name you need to buy a special certificate not just the one you get on the day.
So we got it. And now I'm officially an Elton.

Photobucket

Then Myl took me (pregnant lady) on a wild goose walk around Chippendale/Ultimo/Glebe.
I had no idea where we were going. We turned up at the Broadway shops and I got a free Boost Juice for my birthday. We then went to the cinema and watched Tomorrow When the War Began.
It was still only 10am.

Photobucket

After that he took me to a surprise lunch. It was going to be Yum Cha but the picture on the front of the restaurant made me feel a little queasy so we went to Chinatown instead and had a lunch special.

After lunch we walked down to Darling Harbour and went to the Chinese Gardens. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place.
Myl made me get dressed up in these Chinese clothes and took my picture around the garden. I looked quite un-chinese but it was fun.

Photobucket

We walked round the harbour and saw some sweet little baby ducks then we caught the tram home.

I had a 20 min power nap before going off to nanny and then we had bible study.

It was a really nice Birthday.

Friday Date - Basement Birds

Photobucket

It was the little ones first ever concert. It was amazing.

Myl had bought us the tickets as an 18 month wedding anniversary present quite a while ago and since then we have had the basement birds cd on repeat. They were really good.

I quite enjoyed having four acoustic guitars onstage at the same time playing almost the same thing but totally getting away with it.

We arrived in the city with plenty of time and were at the very start of the line. Then we waited, and waited. A big burly bouncer came to the front of the door and told us it was almost time to come in and that we should all line up... on the OTHER side of the door. All of a sudden hordes of people started making a line and we kept getting pushed back further and further.

We were still in the first 1/3 of people in the line. But no longer first. That hurt.

Nevertheless we got pretty good "seats." It was standing room only but there were some steps you could sit on. I was getting a little worried as I've heard that pregnant ladies are likely to faint if standing for long periods of time. I had my Myl to lean on though.

The basement birds played every song they knew. At the end of the encore they said not to ask them to play more as they didn't know anything else.

Old Man River was the support act although I think he is slightly more famous than the birds. He was great as well.

Myles and I had a great time singing and dancing along.

A great date.

13 August 2010

Ikea date and a gift for the bobbin.

Myl and I have decided to do weekly Friday arvo dates.

We went to a marriage course at college the other week and we learnt that it is so important to give time to each other. It's gotten harder this half of the year as Myl is out in the mornings and I'm out in the afternoons but we managed to find a slot to have our "date night" or date afternoon.

So far we had a failed trip to the rocks (it was much too cold so we went to Glebe instead) and a trip to Ikea today.

May not sound like the most exciting thing ever but if you've seen 500 Days of Summer you will know what I mean. The trip is made even more exciting by the ability to not only look and swoon at the children/baby section but to actually be able to consider things there.

So we looked and oohed and ahhed. And we got the little bobbin a present. Its called the Fabler bed canopy and it was $29.99.

Its really cute and has bunting round the top and little coloured beads around on the mesh. They had it on display and I was thinking of tucking the little one into bed at night and closing the little curtains.

Actually the whole Fabler series is pretty cute. They have soft toys and wall stickers and blankets etc.

Might be back.

It was a nice date for Myl and I. We got some Swedish meatballs at the restaurant and Myl ate a hideous $1 hot-dog. (Thank heavens I can't eat them.)

It might be tricky to have date night once the little one comes along. Or date afternoon. It might need to be date-while-baby-has-a-nap for a while but that's ok. We're having a pretty good time at the moment.

Hmm... where to next week?
