what i wore wednesday

 I need to admit something...
sometimes I don't get out of my pjs for a while.

My little one wakes up round six or seven has a feed/change/feed and then if we don't have somewhere to be we go back to sleep. Sometimes we don't wake up till nine or ten. Then it's time for another feed/change/feed and a cuddle and a chat and a bit of blog reading, laundry, breakfast and oh! it's 1:30 pm and I'm still in my jammies.

So, in order to get me to get out of those perjims and into something lovely. I'm going to post what I wore each Wednesday. I miss getting all dressed up for my weekly pregnancy photos and now it is getting colder I can experiment with all my hats and scarves and warm things.

Now I know its Saturday today but I'm not great at taking selphys and didn't ask Myl to take my photo till yesterday/ So here is my first what I wore Wednesday taken on Friday, posted on Saturday.

little girls

We brought our little girl home from the hospital in the same dress that I was brought home in.

The one at the top is me.
I win on the hair stakes. I had a LOT of hair. Little sweets is a bit of a baldy and possibly a blonde.
Our little girl is much smaller than I was but I think it's pretty nice that we are already sharing clothes.
I wonder if she will be taller than me one day.

packed!

I finally packed my bag for the hospital this week.

I'm assuming that I will be going straight home after the little one is born so I haven't packed extra clothes and things. I think if I decide to stay longer I'll just get Myl to bring the extra clothes.

And why am I crazy enough to not want to stay in hospital longer than I need to? Well a few reasons.

- I have my super midwife/early childhood nurse mum coming to look after me when the little one is born.
- Husbands aren't allowed to stay overnight at the postnatal ward unless you are lucky enough to get a single room. I don't anticipate being that lucky. I can't really handle being without Myles for that long. Especially when there is something as exciting as our baby in the world.
- Husbands are only allowed in during the hours of 9-11 and 2-8. (regular visiting hours) I know I will probably need sleep and things like that but I function so much better when someone I love (Myl) is around. He doesn't need to be in the same room.
- It's a hospital. It's cold, sterile and just not my comfy bed.
- I get to learn how to be a mama in the place where I am going to be a mama.
- The hospital has an excellent early discharge program.

Of course if there are complications I will stay in the ward. I have a room booked. I'm just hoping to not need it.

So anyway.

Here is what's in the bag.

Toiliteries
-makeup removal pads (for witch hazel)
-bar of soap
-massage oil
-comb
-face wash
-shower gel
-shampoo and conditioner
-witch hazel
-deoderant

-toothpaste

-underwear x5
-maternity pads x4
-breast pads x4
-hairbands

-oversized tshirt
-bikini
-singlet top
-pyjamas
-swimming shorts for Myl
-singlet bluey for Myl
-change of clothes for after birth. Very comfy dress.

-baby wrap

-massager
-fruit and nut bars x6
-packet of poppers
-Frankie magazine
-computer and speakers (music)
-pregnancy folder
-camera
-mobile phone
-wallet
-Active Birth

Some of the things I haven't put in like my phone and wallet but I have written out a list of the last minute things to put in and put it on the top of my bag so that when the time comes we can just slip them in and off we go.

I also wrote on the sheet the number for the birth centre in BIG letters and what to do when I am in labour (for Myl). It says
-call the birth centre
-call my mum
-pack the last things into the bag

All set! Now all we need are contractions.

material girl

 baby things 1

This little one is not even out of the womb yet and already she has so much stuff.

There is a fantastic article here about the five "essential" baby items that are not so essential. It's a fantastic read and has really made me think about what the little one needs vs what I see in the shop and swoon over. I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with having things for your baby but on a tight(ish) budget it's good to look at what is actually necessary.

So far I have gotten a bit of baby stuff. I have a fantastic list given to me by a friend of all the good to have baby things, their average cost and good brands/features to look out for.

Here is what I do have.

- Cot. It's wooden and was given to us.
- Blankets. A few different ones. Cotton, wool.
- Wraps. aden + anias, muslin, cotton.
- Burpy towells x5. Ikea 99c.
- On loan one Mei Tai and one fabric wrap.
- Baby bath. From ikea.
- Change table and mat. Using a desk with a mat on top.
- Baby bag. Made by my mum.
- Car restraint.

Here's what I don't have

- Cot mattress. I threw out the one that came with the cot as it was a bit stained and I was told it's best not to use a second hand one. Need to measure cot and buy.
- Sheets, mattress protector etc.
- Pram. Going with the Maclaren Vogue. Just have to buy it.
- Nappies. Disposable for the newborn stage then cloth.
- Nappy bucket. With lid.
- Breast pads. yes.
- Bath products. Natural and chemical free. Both for at home and for nappy bag.
- Rocker. I loved mine as a baby. Keeps baby occupied while I am in the shower etc.
- Porta cot. We do go away quite a lot.

Here's what I have but no doubt need more of.
- Baby clothes. Size 000 for newborn and 00 for a bit older.
- Books. All the classics.
- Toys. I'm gathering a pile of handmade softies.

All I really need at the moment is the cot finished and the car seat installed. If the little one comes early we just need to be able to take her home and give her somewhere to sleep. Seven weeks to go. I can do it.

pink

So, this is what came out of the envelope the other weekend.

We're having a baby girl. I am so so stoked.

But... to tell the truth I'm also a little nervous.

Now don't get me wrong. I do like the colour pink. (I'm writing my blog in pink for today after all) I can even remember a time in high school when I owned at least ten pink tops. It was teh colour. It looks very sweet in many occasions most notably marshmallows, babies bottom cheeks, sunsets and the eyes of albino rabbits.

But..

On my sweet little baby girl EVERY day?

Perhaps not?

I was at a baby shower recently and a LOT of the gifts were pink. It made me realise that this could be the future for us. Pink onsies, pink booties and socks with a pink jacket and beanie with pink bobbles. A pink pram perhaps? And a pink sling. Heck Myles has a pink shirt he could join in on the fun.

It was all a little too much pink.

Now I don't want to come across all anti-gender or anything. My girl will definitely look like a girl but maybe more in the roughntumble brownie guide/Anne of Green Gables/Narnia/Kick-bot chick from Middle Earth/Amelia Earehart kinda way.

I guess she will be what she will be but I'm sure she can do it in whatever colour she wants... even if that turns out to be pink.

gaia.. and why I don't like hospitals.

A few weeks ago I went to a special baby sale for a brand named gaia.
They make lovely organic cotton clothes for little ones.

I got some cutie-pie things.

In other news...

I've been feeling really well since my post on Monday. I feel like I have much more energy. Granted I did sleep pretty much half the day on Tuesday but maybe that's just what I needed.

I had an appointment at the birth centre with the Obstetrician which was good and uneventful. A good thing in an appointment. Little One's heartbeat is great, my blood pressure is fine.

The ob clarified that I will most likely have hypothyroidisim (I don't as yet know too much about what this means other than that I need to take a pill a day. Supposedly the disorder has a name. I don't know and that's ok for now) after the little one is born and sent me off to find the mysterious thyroid clinic after having my blood taken for a thyroid level test.

She told me to go upstairs to Women and Babies Ambulatory Care. Sure, I thought, I've been there before. The lady at the desk had no idea what I was talking about. She looked at me like a crazy thyroid woman gone completely mental. I told her I had just seen the Ob at the Birth Centre to which she replied that the birth centre had no obstetritian, only midwives...

Hmmm.. I didn't quite know what to say to that.

"Ok you are right. I just saw a midwife pretending to be an Ob. That stethoscope really fooled me."
"Dang it, yes I was just at McDonalds not the Birth Centre. Silly preggo brain."
"No I'm trying to trick you into letting me book into the thyroid clinic. Drat you foiled my clever plan."

I'm sorry, I'm being very cynical.

Eventually I found the thyroid clinic cleverly hidden behind the coronary care day clinic down a passageway after turning left then right then going through the locked door when all the workers were at lunch. Bright shining light with THYROID CLINIC may have been helpful.

Ahh there I go being cynical again. Must be the baby talking.

They told me that they were quite happy with the way my GP had been managing my thyroids and that I didn't need to see them.  Oh.

So now my blood is whizzing off somewhere to be tested and sent to the sneakily hidden thyroid clinic that doesn't need me to visit them again as I may die of starvation on the way over there am being looked after already. I hope it gets to someone. I'm not the hugest fan of needles and have already had far too many blood tests for my liking.

I was glad to get out of the hospital and glad I took Myles along.

eeek... the cuteness!

I spotted the yellow onesie over at Bleubird vintage blog. Its from a site called gilt. Gilt sells lots of different clothes including ones for little ones that are very cute and a bit cheaper than the shops. (Although they are still pretty spennos for such tiny clothes.)

I am a bit of a fan of the colour yellow.

In other news

Bobbin has been wriggling away so happily inside of me lately. I feel movements so often. It is really lovely. Last night they were all in one particular spot so I grabbed Myles hand and put it on my tum. Bob gave an almighty kick (in a very gentle way) and Myles could feel it. Myl was then treated to a lovely little underbelly dance for the next few minutes. I think he was pretty chuffed.

It's his birthday tomorrow. I guess the little one was just wishing him a good one.

swimmy

It's getting into the warmer part of the year and the local pool is open. It only costs 2 dollars to go so I think I will be going a lot.

But with an expanding belly I need something to wear. Here is what I've found.

Haven't been able to find many from Australia so I might have to buy it overseas.
