The pie tin is a little cafe we have walked past many times on the way to the library but never visited. I'm glad we did.
It's a trendy looking joint with communal table, cushions made out of flour sacks and conversational cutlery. (it tells you to use your hands). But what you really go to the pie tin for are the pies.
One window is full of the savoury. Chicken and leek, beef brisket, chilli, veg korma, beef and stout. These are gourmet pies at their best. $10 gets you a pie and two sides and while that seems expensive for a pie it was a pretty hearty meal. I got a beef brisket with leaf and rice salad. The leaf salad was good but both Myl and I decided we didn't like rice salad. When cold rice goes a bit too crunchy.
What we could not go past, however, we're the dessert pies. At 6 or 7 50 a pop you get pretty good Newtown cake value. And look at those pies! I
couldn't choose so Myl went off to get one to share and came back with two.
We didn't order it but there is an apple pie there that is bigger than Lucy.
Our poor baby girl was pretty sick on Saturday but enjoyed pointing at my pie and eating cream. The only food she would eat all day. It's not a heaps child friendly spot but did alright. It was pretty packed on the weekend but you can also get takeaway. We'll be back maybe for a cheeky dessert date sometime.
